A 14-year-old boy died on Friday afternoon after he was struck by a vehicle near Waywayseecappo First Nation while riding his bike.

According to the RCMP, the teen was found unresponsive on Highway 45 before he was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

RCMP say according to witnesses, the vehicle — driven by a 64-year-old Waywayseeccappo male resident — and the cyclist were both travelling eastbound on Highway 45 when the cyclist veered into traffic.

Despite the efforts of the driver to take evasive action the collision occurred, RCMP say. Alcohol is not considered a contributing factor.

The investigation continues. RCMP Prairie Mountain Area continue to investigate with the assistance of the RCMP criminal crash investigation team and an RCMP traffic analyst.
